Modelling preserved railways
The heritage railway scene can provide rich pickings for the modeller in search of a new project. Craig Tiley serves up four varied suggestions.
LNER J35 0-6-0
These sturdy 0-6-0s were designed by W P Reid for the North British Railway between 1906 and 1913; the scale drawings are by Brian Meredith.
David Greenwood took on a project to create a layout in a carry-case: this N gauge layout set in present-day Cornwall is the result.
North Level Railway
Darren Berry shows off the 4mm scale layout built by members of the Somerset Railway Modellers Club, and inspired by the GWR Taunton to Barnstaple line.
St George's Dock
Small industrial locomotives and shipping are combined by Alan Gray in this Tyneside-set layout in O gauge, reflecting the once-widespread dock systems.
Variations on a Parkside theme
Duncan Redford used a Parkside kit and left-over parts from a Coopercraft kit to create the prototype GWR MINK D in 4mm scale. He also describes how other versions of the type could be built.
